Variable Refrigerant Flow, Multi-Zone, Heat Pump & Heat Recovery Systems

Variable Refrigerant Flow [VRF] – Panasonic

Panasonic LogoPanasonic has been in the air conditioning business for 60 years, starting back in 1958 with home coolers. Many years later in 1985, they introduced the first GHP (gas heat pump) VRF (variable refrigerant flow) air conditioner. The VRF technology continued to develop and in 1998, Panasonic introduced the world’s first simultaneous 3-pipe heating/cooling VRF system. [1] After 100 years of technological advances and innovation, employee motivation is a key to success at the end of the day.  Watch the video below for employee motivation stories.

VRF, or Variable Refrigerant Flow Systems are available in two types – Heat Recovery or Heat Pump. Each system uses a single condensing unit to move the refrigerant around the system. VRF is a great option for applications that do not allow for ductwork and/or when ductwork is not an option.

Take a virtual tour of one of the largest Heat Recovery VRF Systems – installed at Shippensburg University.

A Heat Recovery system is able to simultaneously heat and cool spaces with a three-pipe system. With indoor units mounted within each space, a Heat Recovery system allows for adjoining and/or adjacent rooms to be heated and/or cooled based on desired thermostat temperature.  In a Heat Pump system, spaces can be heated or cooled utilizing a two-pipe system.  The identical indoor units can be mounted within each space, but adjoining/adjacent rooms must always heat or always cool.

Variable Refrigerant Flow Indoor units are eco-friendly and available in multiple different configurations including wall or ceiling mounted units, four-way cassettes with condensate pumps, and high-static concealed duct units. All units use R410A refrigerant and operate at 208/230 voltage power at 60Hz, single phase. Electronic expansion valves (EEV) are included for accurate refrigerant control.

ECONAVI sensors are compatible with various types of indoor units (4-Way Cassette, Mini Cassette, Wall-Mounted, Ceiling Mounted, Mid Static Duct and Low Profile Duct). The ECONAVI sensor (mounted remotely) maximizes the wide (120°) detection area and allows for optimal energy operation. Activity levels are detected in real-time and temperatures are automatically adjusted to optimize the lower power consumption.

Variable Refrigerant Flow Outdoor Units, ECOI EX™ Series (Heat Pump or Heat Recovery) can connect up to 64 indoor units per single outdoor unit (50% to 150% ratio of indoor to outdoor capacity). The Mini ECOI™ can connect up to 9 indoor units per single outdoor unit (50% to 130% ratio of indoor to outdoor capacity). The ECOI EX™ Series is certified to AHRI Standard 1230 and Mini ECOI™ is certified to AHRI Standard 210/240.
